President Mohammed Shahabuddin called on the Scouts to help curb the rise of youth gangs in cities and suburbs during the opening ceremony of the 52nd annual (triennial) general meeting of the National Council of Bangladesh Scouts.
Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, the President, who is also the Chief Scout, highlighted the negative impacts of "satellite culture," drug addiction, and the misuse of information technology on teenagers. He noted that these factors contribute to the emergence of youth gangs, which disrupt the lives of ordinary citizens with their activities.
The President urged Scouts to extend their roles beyond traditional activities to address social problems and shape public opinion. He emphasized the importance of equipping the youth with practical skills in information technology and international languages to keep pace with the rapidly changing world.
Shahabuddin also underscored the Scouts' contributions to tree planting, sanitation, health education, and environmental awareness, and encouraged them to further their services to the grassroots level. He highlighted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's 'Vision 2041' to make Bangladesh a developed and prosperous nation and called on the Scouts to play a positive role in this mission.
Bangladesh Scouts President Md Abul Kalam Azad and Chief National Commissioner Md Mozammel Haque Khan were also present at the event.
