Masum of Kamrangirchar in the capital was ill for a long time. He died while undergoing treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman University (BSMMU) ICU on Thursday (January 25) night. Relatives donated his two kidneys and cornea on the advice of doctors.

Tania, the wife of deceased Masum said, "I donated his organs thinking that if anyone is alive on behalf of my husband. One or two life. This is the only purpose of organ donation."

Masum's elder brother. Mamun said, "we as a family have taken this decision. If more people donate such kidneys along with us, many patients life will be saved."

Soon after that, the doctors removed Masum's two kidneys in a special procedure through surgery. A kidney was transplanted into the body of Tahmina Yasmin, a resident of Mohammadpur. The other operation is done at Mirpur Kidney Foundation. This is the second case in the country of successfully transplanting a deceased person's kidney into a patient's body.

Khurshida Parveen, mother of kidney recipient Tahmina said, "Sir called at 12 noon today. He said that talks are going on with the relatives of a patient. If they agree, my daughter's kidney can be transplanted."

Doctor Habibur Rahman, who led the surgery, said that the transplant was successfully completed. It took about four and a half hours to complete this complex operation. This professor of urology department said, this is our second cadaveric transplantation. These transplants involve huge organs. One appeal to the nation – that everyone should be inspired by the ideals shown by Tania. Let them also come forward to help thousands of dying patients.

Earlier, on January 19 last year, for the first time in BSMMU, a kidney was taken from the body of a dead person and transplanted into the body of two others.
