Dhaka, July 11 (V7N)- Bangladesh and China have agreed to upgrade their relationship to a "comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership," moving from their previous "strategic partnership," according to a joint statement. This agreement came as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina concluded her three-day visit to China, during which she met with top Chinese leaders including President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang.
 
The joint statement emphasized the importance of early repatriation for resolving the situation of displaced people from Myanmar in Bangladesh. The two countries committed to the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence and pledged to enhance their Belt and Road cooperation. They also plan to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic relations in 2025, aiming to further elevate their bilateral ties.
 
The statement also highlighted various cooperative agreements in trade, investment, digital economy, healthcare, education, and infrastructure. Both countries reaffirmed their mutual respect for sovereignty and pledged to deepen their strategic communication and practical cooperation across multiple sectors. The leaders also discussed climate change, human rights, and regional security issues, stressing the need for collaborative efforts to address these global challenges.
