Dhaka, July 14 (V7N)- Students advocating for quota system reform in public service defied police barricades at Gulistan in the capital on Sunday afternoon, as they marched towards Bangabhaban.
The protest, which began from Dhaka University's central library at 12:10 pm, saw participation from students of Dhaka University, Jagannath University, affiliated colleges, and various educational institutions.
Upon reaching the GPO intersection, protesters held a sit-in before removing police barricades to proceed towards Bangabhaban.
According to Hasnat Abdullah, a coordinator of the anti-quota movement, a student delegation plans to meet President Mohammed Shahabuddin to submit a memorandum. The memorandum will urge an emergency parliamentary session to address what they term "quota discrimination," advocating for new legislation or executive orders.
The protesters have also issued a 24-hour ultimatum to withdraw a case filed against a police officer, alleging it to be "false and fabricated."
These developments were announced during a press conference under the banner of the "Anti-Discrimination Student Movement" held at Dhaka University's central library on Saturday evening.
Apart from the march in Dhaka, students across the country will submit memorandums through their respective deputy commissioners (DCs) to the President.
