Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina called on the Muslim community to unite against the genocide in Gaza perpetrated by Israel. "This genocide in Gaza is unacceptable. We should all unite against it," she asserted.

The Prime Minister's comments came during a courtesy visit from Egyptian Ambassador to Bangladesh Omar Mohie Eldin Ahmed Fahmy at her office.

PM's Deputy Press Secretary KM Shakhawat Moon briefed the media after the meeting. He mentioned that the Prime Minister reiterated Bangladesh's stance against war and called for redirecting funds used for arms production and warfare towards the welfare of humanity, especially women and children.

"It is more effective to allocate the funds used for arms and wars to the welfare of mankind," she said, adding that she consistently speaks out against the Gaza genocide.

Sheikh Hasina also noted that bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Egypt have not developed as expected, despite potential. She mentioned that the total trade volume between the two countries was USD 180.6 million in the 2022-23 fiscal year.

She suggested collaboration in agriculture, textiles, pharmaceuticals, tourism, and education could benefit both countries. The Egyptian ambassador supported the idea of a united Muslim Ummah against the genocide in Palestine and praised Bangladesh's socioeconomic progress under Sheikh Hasina's leadership.

He also expressed Egypt's interest in increasing trade and business with Bangladesh and mentioned that the Grand Imam of Egypt wished to visit Bangladesh, to which Sheikh Hasina responded positively.
