Quota reform protesters gathered in front of the Raju Memorial Sculpture at Dhaka University on Monday to rally against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's remarks about their movement.
Some protesters claimed that when activists from Eden Mohila College attempted to join the rally, they were obstructed by Chhatra League leaders, leading to a clash around 12:30 PM. The activists were later assisted by Dhaka College students to leave the college.
Students from Dhaka University and other institutions nationwide began protesting late Sunday in response to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's criticism of their opposition to reinstating quotas in government jobs.
The students, led by the Students Against Discrimination movement, took to the streets at around 10:45 PM, with participants from all dorms, including women's halls.
Earlier, during a press conference at Ganabhaban about her visit to China, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina criticized those opposing quotas for freedom fighters' descendants, asking, "If the grandchildren of freedom fighters do not get jobs, will the grandchildren of Razakars get them?"
