Dhaka, August 5 — Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka has been temporarily closed following the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the subsequent political developments. According to airport sources, flight operations were suspended starting at 5:30 PM on Monday.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) issued a notification stating that all flight take-offs and related activities would be halted for a period of six hours. This decision comes in the wake of significant political changes and public unrest.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina submitted her resignation to the President and left the country. Later in the afternoon, Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman convened a meeting with representatives from various political parties at the army headquarters. Following the meeting, he announced the formation of an interim government to manage the nation's affairs during this transitional period.

In his address to the nation, General Waqar-uz-Zaman reassured the public, stating, "I have taken responsibility for people's lives. You will not be disappointed. All your demands will be fulfilled." He also called for cooperation from the populace and emphasized that justice would be served for any crimes committed during the recent unrest.

The closure of Shahjalal International Airport and the formation of an interim government underscore the gravity of the current situation as the country navigates this critical juncture.
