Dhaka, Aug 09 (V7N) – The United States has expressed strong support for Dr. Muhammad Yunus’s recent appeal for an end to the ongoing violence in Bangladesh. Dr. Yunus, who has been appointed as the chief adviser of Bangladesh’s interim government, has urged a halt to the unrest that has plagued the country.

During a briefing in Washington on Thursday, US Department of State Spokesperson Matthew Miller emphasized the US commitment to collaborating with both the interim government and Dr. Yunus. “Our focus is on ensuring that the interim government paves the way for a democratic and stable future for Bangladesh,” Miller stated.

The US has been in contact with the interim government, and the US charge d’affaires was present at Dr. Yunus’s swearing-in ceremony held at Bangabhaban on Thursday evening. While it’s unclear whether direct discussions took place at the event, her attendance signifies the US's support for the new leadership.

The State Department reiterated its stance on the importance of peace and political stability in Bangladesh. “We call on all parties to cease further violence and hold accountable those responsible for recent acts of aggression,” Miller added. He stressed that any actions taken by the interim government should align with democratic principles, uphold the rule of law, and reflect the will of the Bangladeshi people.

The US has expressed profound sorrow over the recent violence, which has resulted in deaths, human rights violations, and numerous injuries. “Our condolences go out to those who have lost loved ones and those affected by the violence,” said Miller. He assured that the situation in Bangladesh is being closely monitored by the US.

With Dr. Yunus’s appointment as chief adviser, there is renewed hope for Bangladesh’s path towards democracy and peace.
