In a significant operation, the army seized a large shipment of 70 sacks of sugar and blankets smuggled from India in Kalmakanda upazila of Netrakona district. The operation, which began early Friday morning, is ongoing as of 4:30 p.m. to prevent further smuggling activities.

The army patrol team intercepted a consignment of blankets in the Isabpur area of Kalmakanda Union. Later, around 11 a.m., they seized sugar and other illegal goods from a warehouse in the Deittakhali area of Kalmakanda Sadar Union. The warehouse is reportedly operated by members of the Nuruzzaman-Saju-Oli-Alamin smuggling syndicate.

Several identified smugglers have been arrested during the operation. The Executive Officer of Kalmakanda Upazila confirmed the incident, stating that the legal process is underway.

The authorities continue to monitor the situation closely to curb smuggling activities in the region.
