Chottogram, Aug 22 (V7N) - Chottogram has been hit with uninterrupted heavy rainfall for the past four days, attributed to a low-pressure system lingering over the Bay of Bengal.

The Patenga office of the Meteorological Department reports that further heavy rain is expected today. Over the last 24 hours (from 9:00 AM Wednesday to 9:00 AM Thursday), the city experienced 141.8 millimeters of rainfall, with 55 millimeters falling within just three hours.

The incessant rain has inundated low-lying areas across the city, including Chawk Bazar, DC Road, Bakalia, Fultola, KB Aman Ali Road, Omar Ali Matobbar Road, Khaza Road, Bahaddarhat, Faridarpara, Mehedibagh, Chandgaon, Muradpur, Mohammadpur, 2 No. Gate, Wireless Mor, Agrabad Sheikh Mujib Road, Agrabad CDA Residential Area, Probartak Mor, Riazuddin Bazar, Kapasgola, Katalganj, Tin Pool, and Halishahar. Both roads and homes in these regions are flooded.

Moreover, large sections of Hathazari and Fatikchhari upazilas are also submerged.

This morning's heavy rain and extensive waterlogging prevented many residents from commuting to work. Schools remained open, but attendance was low, and there was a noticeable drop in traffic.

However, despite the reduced number of vehicles, traffic congestion persisted in several areas due to waterlogging, causing severe hardships for the residents of Chottogram.
