Dhaka, Aug 29 (V7N): The death toll from the recent floods across 11 districts has surged to 52, with 21 additional fatalities reported in Feni, Cumilla, Noakhali, and Moulvibazar districts as of Thursday, according to the Disaster Management and Relief Ministry.

The casualties include 14 deaths in Cumilla, six in Chattogram, 17 in Feni, eight in Noakhali, and one each in Cox's Bazar, Brahmanbaria, Khagrachhari, Moulvibazar, and Lakshmipur districts.

Additionally, over 1 million families have been stranded in 68 upazilas across these flood-affected districts, which include Feni, Cumilla, Chattogram, Khagrachhari, Noakhali, Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Brahmanbaria, Sylhet, Lakshmipur, and Cox's Bazar. In total, 5.4 million people have been impacted in 492 unions or municipalities within these regions.

One person remains missing in Moulvibazar district.

The ministry reported that at least 500,000 people have sought refuge in 3,403 shelter centers, where 36,448 domestic animals have also been housed.

A total of 595 medical teams are currently providing services in the flood-affected areas. The government has allocated Tk 4.52 crore for the affected districts, alongside 20,650 tonnes of rice and 15,000 pieces of dry food or other essential items, including baby food and animal fodder worth Tk 35 lakh each.
