Dhaka, Sep 11 (V7N- Taufiq-e-Ilahi Chowdhury, the former advisor to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on power, energy, and mineral resources, was arrested by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DB) late Tuesday night. The arrest took place in the Gulshan area of the capital.

Additional Commissioner of DB, Rezaul Karim Mallik, confirmed the news to the media around 11:15 pm. He stated that Chowdhury was taken into custody at approximately 10:15 pm, but refrained from providing details about the specific charges or case related to the arrest. "There are many cases against him," Mallik added, without elaborating further.

Taufiq-e-Ilahi Chowdhury has been a key figure in Bangladesh’s energy sector, serving as the Prime Minister's advisor on power, energy, and mineral resources since the Awami League government took office in 2009.

In a related development, the police also arrested former Additional Attorney General Barrister Mehdi Hasan Chowdhury and Gazipur Metropolitan Awami League Advisory Council member Riaz Mahmud Aynal. According to a police headquarters notification, they were apprehended by the Jhenaidah district police while allegedly attempting to flee the country illegally. Both are accused in two separate murder cases under the Adabar Police and Gazipur Police Basan police stations.

The arrests mark a significant moment as authorities continue to pursue individuals linked to various high-profile cases across the country.
