Ashulia, Sep 12 (V7N) – A total of 219 garment factories in the Ashulia industrial area have been shut down due to ongoing labour unrest and protests, according to local authorities. Superintendent of Police for Ashulia Industrial Police-1, Dr. Sarwar Alam, confirmed the closures on Thursday.

Out of the total, 86 factories were closed by management under Section 13 (1) of the Labour Act, which allows for temporary suspension of operations. The remaining 133 factories declared general holidays due to the unrest.

Dr. Alam reported that no incidents of road blockades, factory attacks, or vandalism were observed in the industrial area on Thursday. However, discontent among workers over various internal demands has persisted, leading to walkouts and strikes in several factories. Despite some employees initially entering the factories, many joined the strikes, halting production across all 219 facilities.

To prevent any escalation, additional police forces have been deployed throughout the industrial zone, and joint force patrols continue to ensure security and stability.
