Dhaka, Sep 12 (V7N)- The Chief Advisor of Bangladesh's interim government, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, welcomed the Bangladesh cricket team following their historic whitewash of Pakistan on Pakistani soil. A reception was held on Thursday at the Chief Advisor's office in Tejgaon, Dhaka, where the team was honoured for their remarkable achievement.

The reception was attended by Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, the new Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Farooq Ahmed, BCB Director Nazmul Abedin, and Chief Executive Nizam Uddin Chowdhury, along with the players. Among those present were captain Nazmul Hossain, Mushfiqur Rahim, and Mominul Haque, who were personally congratulated by the Chief Advisor.

During the event, Dr. Yunus lauded the team’s performance, describing the Test series win as a "historic" moment for Bangladesh cricket. He expressed pride on behalf of the entire nation, stating, "The whole country is proud of the feat that the Bangladesh team has achieved. I spoke to the captain immediately after the victory, but I was eagerly waiting to meet you all and congratulate you in person."

In his speech, the Chief Advisor also emphasised the power of sports in uniting a nation and motivating future generations. He further shared his involvement with international sporting events, including his role as a consultant and goodwill ambassador at the Paris Olympics. Dr. Yunus also revealed that he has been invited to take on a similar role at the upcoming Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina, Italy.

The Bangladesh cricket team expressed their joy and gratitude at the reception. Captain Nazmul Hossain spoke on behalf of the team, saying, "Every player is happy to be here. This recognition will truly motivate us." He credited the series win to the hard work and dedication of both the players and the coaching staff.

The reception underscored the national pride surrounding Bangladesh cricket, as the team continues to achieve historic victories on the global stage.
