Dhaka, Sep 15 (V7N): Bangladesh Mahila Parishad has expressed deep concern and outrage over the recent surge in violence against women and girls across various districts in the country. In a statement issued on Sunday, the organization cited several media reports detailing harrowing incidents of abuse and murder.

The Mahila Parishad highlighted specific cases, such as in Rajapur village of Dhamrai upazila in Manikganj, where a woman was set on fire by her husband after a domestic dispute. In Satkhira's Thanaghata area, an intellectually challenged girl was beaten to death with a hammer for playing loud music, after an altercation with a local resident.

In another case, the body of a young woman was found hanging in a residential area of Kuakata, Patuakhali, after she failed to respond from her room. In Gazipur’s Sreepur municipality, Mahmuda Akhtar was allegedly beaten to death by her husband on September 10, following suspicions of infidelity.

Additionally, in Naogaon's Manda upazila, a family dispute led to a husband killing his wife, while in Thakurgaon, a woman endured severe physical torture after being lured into a marriage. There was also an attempted rape of a woman attending to her husband in a Kurigram clinic. Another shocking incident occurred in Cox's Bazar, where a woman was publicly harassed and assaulted, with footage of the event circulating on social media.

The Mahila Parishad emphasized that these brutal acts are part of a disturbing rise in violence against women and girls, severely affecting their safety and well-being. The organization called for swift legal action against those responsible and urged authorities to implement strong measures to curb such violence.

Furthermore, the Mahila Parishad advocated for a collective societal effort, involving individuals, families, and the community at large, to combat and prevent violence against women and girls.
