Dhaka, Sep 17 (V7N) — A Dhaka court has remanded Editors Guild president Mozammel Haque Babu, Daily Bhorer Kagoj editor Shyamal Dutta, and writer-journalist Shahriar Kabir for seven days in connection with two separate murder cases. The order was issued by the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Chanaulyah on Tuesday.

The remand follows an application by the investigating officer, who sought 10 days to interrogate the three journalists. After hearing both sides, the court granted a seven-day remand for further investigation.

Shyamal Dutta, the former General Secretary of the Jatiya Press Club, is being remanded in connection with the death of Mohammad Fazlu (31), who was killed during the students' movement in Vasantek, Dhaka.

Mozammel Haque Babu and Shahriar Kabir have been remanded in relation to the death of domestic worker Liza, who was shot dead in the Ramna area during the quota reform movement on July 18.

The arrests were made on Monday, with Babu and Dutta being detained at the Dhobaura border in Mymensingh, while Kabir, a former president of the 1971 Khatak-Dalal Nirmul Committee, was arrested at his Mohakhali residence in Dhaka.

The court's decision to remand the journalists has raised significant attention, as these figures are prominent within Bangladesh’s media and civil rights landscape.
