Dhaka, Sep 18 (V7N)- Planning and Education Adviser Wahiduddin Mahmud announced today that the interim government will not proceed with the 9th Five-Year Plan, which was being developed by the former Awami League administration. Mahmud explained, "A five-year plan is not needed at this moment. Once an elected government is in place, they will draft a new plan." This statement came during a press briefing following a meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec), chaired by Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus at his office in Tejgaon.

The 9th Five-Year Plan, which was being formulated by the General Economy Department of the planning ministry, was set to begin on July 25, 2025, and run until June 2030. The concept paper for the plan, titled "Ninth Five-Year Plan of Bangladesh (July 2025-June 2030): Sustainable and Equitable Growth for Upper Middle Income," outlined development objectives for 20 major sectors, including urbanization, agriculture, financial sector growth, poverty reduction, and improvements in education and health.
