Mark Zuckerberg, the Chief Executive Officer of Meta Platforms, engaged in discussions on artificial intelligence (AI) matters with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida during his visit to Tokyo on Tuesday. The meeting, part of Zuckerberg's tour across Asia, focused on AI and the future of technology.

Speaking briefly to reporters at the prime minister's residence, Zuckerberg described the conversation as productive, emphasizing their dialogue on AI-related topics. However, he left without entertaining any questions from the press.

This meeting comes in the wake of reports suggesting Zuckerberg's upcoming visit to South Korea by the end of the month. There, he is expected to discuss AI matters with Jay Y. Lee, the chairman of Samsung Electronics, and potentially hold talks with South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol. Meta had confirmed Zuckerberg's intention to visit South Korea last week.

Japan has been actively pursuing advancements in AI development, with both the government and the corporate sector striving to keep pace with global developments. Prime Minister Kishida has previously held discussions on AI regulation and infrastructure with key figures in the industry, including meetings with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang over the past year.
