Dhaka, Mar 06 (V7N) – The exchange rate of the US dollar remained largely unchanged in the local market last week, while the prices of most other foreign currencies declined slightly on the last working day of the week.
According to data from NCC Bank, the US dollar was traded at Tk 122.70 at the beginning of the week and remained almost stable throughout the week.
However, fluctuations were observed in several other major foreign currencies.
The British pound recorded the highest rate of Tk 167.14 on Thursday, while its lowest rate during the week was Tk 165.17 on Sunday.
Similarly, the euro reached its weekly peak at Tk 146.42 on Thursday, while the lowest rate was Tk 143.79 on Tuesday.
There was relatively little change in the Australian dollar, which traded between Tk 85.88 on Tuesday and Tk 87.35 on Thursday.
The Malaysian ringgit remained comparatively stable, trading within the Tk 31 range throughout the week.
Meanwhile, the Singapore dollar saw minimal fluctuations, reaching a high of Tk 97.67 on Thursday and a low of Tk 97.34 on Tuesday.
The Saudi riyal also remained stable, trading at Tk 32.71 on Monday. The Canadian dollar recorded its highest rate at Tk 89.77 on Thursday and the lowest at Tk 89.54 on Wednesday.
On the other hand, the Indian rupee traded at a highest rate of Tk 1.35 during the week.
Banking sector analysts say the relative stability of the US dollar reflects controlled demand and supply in the foreign exchange market, although global economic conditions continue to influence other currencies.
