Dhaka, Mar 10 (V7N) – The capital is still grappling with a fuel crisis as several filling stations were unable to resume normal operations on Tuesday morning due to supply shortages.
Motorcyclists and car drivers were seen rushing between pumps in search of fuel. The stations that were operational were dispensing fuel following government regulations.
A long queue of vehicles was observed at the Trust Filling Station in Tejgaon, where drivers had to wait for one and a half to two hours to get their desired fuel. Many drivers urged the government to take effective measures to ease their suffering and alleged that some individuals were illegally hoarding oil.
In a bid to ease the ongoing crisis, 5,000 metric tons of diesel are being supplied to Bangladesh from the Numaligarh Refinery in Assam, India. Muhammad Morshed Hossain Azad, General Manager of the Commerce and Operations Department of Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation, confirmed that the pumping of diesel has already started.
He added that the diesel will reach Bangladesh through a pipeline by Tuesday, noting that the government has taken urgent steps to maintain normal fuel stocks and ensure uninterrupted supply.
