On Tuesday, 7th May Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Muhammad Faruk Khan announced that Biman Bangladesh Airlines is considering options from both Boeing and Airbus for aircraft purchases, with Bangladesh's profit in mind.

"We have received proposals from both Airbus and Boeing, and they both seem promising. Biman has formed an evaluation committee to assess these proposals, which will be beneficial for Bangladesh. We will take that into consideration," he stated in response to reporters' queries following a meeting with Anne-Marie Trevelyan, the UK's Minister of State (Indo-Pacific) for Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Affairs, at the secretariat.

Khan mentioned that Airbus has already submitted a financial proposal, and Biman will make a decision after thorough examination.

During the meeting, discussions covered Bangladesh's aviation security training, investment, ground handling, and the procurement of modern equipment.

"We are currently working on the development of our airports in Sylhet and Cox's Bazar, besides Dhaka, and aiming to transform Syedpur into an air hub. Due to these efforts, the UK has shown keen interest in the civil aviation sector," Khan elaborated.

The UK’s state minister highlighted the existing security partnership with Bangladesh's civil aviation ministry. Moreover, they explored opportunities to further enhance cooperation in the aviation sector.

Expressing satisfaction with Bangladesh's overall development across various sectors, Trevelyan expressed optimism that the aviation industry would contribute significantly to Bangladesh’s transition to a middle-income country.

"Bangladesh is making strides in airport development, with a new terminal recently constructed... Therefore, we are eager to share our expertise in different areas, including aviation security," she concluded.
