Textiles and Jute Minister Jahangir Kabir Nanak highlighted the significant role of the ready-made garment (RMG) industry in driving social change and contributing substantially to foreign currency earnings in Bangladesh. During a meeting with a delegation from the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) at his ministry, Nanak emphasized that the garment industry is instrumental in poverty alleviation, with approximately 42 lakh workers employed in the sector.

The meeting, attended by newly elected BGMEA President SM Mannan, along with other senior association leaders, Textiles and Jute Secretary Md Abdur Rauf, and Director General of the Department of Textile Md Nuruzzaman, discussed various issues concerning the garment sector.

In response to BGMEA's demands, Nanak assured the delegation that the government would take necessary measures to ensure cooperation from the National Board of Revenue (NBR) and the customs department. He also mentioned plans to relax policies regarding the establishment of new garment factories outside designated economic zones until a comprehensive economic zone plan is developed.

Regarding the extension of cash assistance, Nanak expressed support for BGMEA's request to continue this facility until 2026, emphasizing the importance of such assistance for maintaining competitiveness in the global market.
