Gazipur, Nov 13 (V7N) — Workers of Tongir Taratex Limited, a garment factory in Tongi, Gazipur, staged a protest on Wednesday morning, blocking the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway to demand their unpaid wages for the past month.
The protest caused significant traffic disruptions along the highway, as workers took to the road in a march to voice their grievances. Gazipur Industrial Police Assistant Superintendent Mosharraf Hossain stated that, upon receiving reports of the blockade, law enforcement personnel, including army personnel, were dispatched to the site to disperse the protesters and restore traffic flow. The highway remained blocked for an hour, resulting in widespread inconvenience for commuters.
This protest follows another recent demonstration by workers from the TNZ factory, who had blocked the same highway for 60 consecutive hours demanding their due wages, finally lifting the blockade on Monday night, November 11.
