Dhaka, Mar 27 (V7N) – The long-neglected road from Mirpur DOHS to Uttara Diabari and Uttara Azampur Kachcha Bazar to Chamurkhan under the new 18-ward project has finally been renovated and opened for traffic before Eid-ul-Fitr.

The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) completed the long-awaited repair work, significantly improving the connectivity between Uttara and Mirpur. The road, initially constructed by the army as a one-way route for the metro rail inauguration, had deteriorated over time due to lack of maintenance, leading to large potholes and severe traffic disruptions.

A Relief for Commuters

For years, this road had been a major headache for commuters. The Ekattor Television aired a report last November, highlighting the poor condition of the road from Uttara South Metro Rail Station to Mirpur-12 DOHS. In response, the DNCC prioritized its repair and completed the work in less than four months.

DNCC Administrator Mohammad Ejaz said:

“After taking charge, I prioritized areas where public suffering was high. The Uttara-Mirpur road was our number one priority, and we have successfully completed it as an Eid gift for the people.”

Future Developments

Ejaz also mentioned that the road passes over a reservoir, making long-term durability a concern. However, DNCC has plans to construct a permanent high bridge over the area in the future.

As part of the beautification initiative, 570 trees have been planted along the 870-meter-long road to enhance greenery.

Additionally, DNCC is focusing on infrastructure development in the 18 newly added wards, where facilities remain underdeveloped. The main road from Azampur Kacha Bazar to Chamurkhan Bridge has been completed, while the Airport-Kaula connecting road is expected to be finished after Eid.

The quick completion of these projects has brought relief to thousands of commuters, easing traffic congestion and improving access between Uttara and Mirpur.
