Dhaka, Apr 23 (V7N)- The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has issued a public call urging citizens and various groups to refrain from blocking roads during protest programs, citing growing public suffering and traffic disruptions across the capital.

In a statement released on Wednesday (April 23), Muhammad Talebur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner of DMP’s Media and Public Relations Department, expressed concern over the rising number of demonstrations that obstruct roads and major intersections in Dhaka.

“Recently, various groups and vested interests have been organizing protest programs that involve blocking roads to press for their demands,” the statement read. “This has been causing severe traffic congestion and tremendous inconvenience to the public.”

The DMP highlighted that the resulting gridlock is affecting daily commuters, including school and university students, office-goers, and foreign-bound passengers. Emergency services are also being disrupted, particularly the movement of patients in critical condition.

Despite the traffic department’s continued efforts to manage congestion, the situation is reportedly worsening due to these road blockades.

The DMP appealed to all concerned parties to act responsibly and consider the broader implications of such actions. “In the greater interest of Dhaka residents and to ensure effective traffic management, everyone is specially requested to avoid unnecessary road blockades,” the statement concluded.
