Dhaka, May 14 (V7N) – Residents of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) staged a human chain on Wednesday morning demanding that Engineer Ishraq Hossain be immediately sworn in as mayor. This comes after the Election Tribunal declared him the rightful winner of the last city polls and the Election Commission (EC) officially published the gazette notification confirming the verdict.
The human chain was organized in front of Nagar Bhaban, the DSCC headquarters, and saw participation from citizens of various wards as well as some City Corporation employees.
Protesters called for urgent implementation of the tribunal’s verdict and criticized the continued appointment of an administrator in the absence of an elected representative. “An administrator who is not elected by the people cannot fully understand the needs of city residents,” one participant said.
They warned that if Engineer Ishraq Hossain is not allowed to take the oath and assume his duties promptly, they will initiate stronger programs of protest in the coming days.
The situation has raised fresh concerns about delays in executing electoral mandates and the role of administrative authorities in respecting legal rulings.
