Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) has leased a 7,580 square feet staff canteen at Uttara Depot of MRT Line-6 for Tk1,000 per month. The notification, signed by Md Nazrul Islam, general manager (Operation and Procurement), disclosed this information.

The notice stated that the tender submitted by contractor firm Khandaker Enterprise on January 1, offering to operate the staff canteen for Tk12,000 (excluding VAT and income tax) annually, has been accepted. The contract, set at Tk1,000 per month as rent, is for one year initially, with an option to extend for three years. The contractor is required to confirm their agreement within seven days and provide a security deposit of Tk3 lakh by March 28.

Responding to inquiries, Nazrul Islam clarified that all procedures followed government regulations, and the canteen's actual size is 1,000 square feet, not 7,580 square feet as mistakenly stated.

According to sources within the metro rail depot, approximately 150 employees work in three shifts, and various workshops are conducted to enhance their efficiency. However, finding a contractor was challenging due to DMTCL's stringent conditions, including fixed food prices, restrictions on cooking, and mandatory catering services.
