Dhaka, Sep 07 (V7N) – Former Additional Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. Shamsuddoha Khandaker has been arrested in connection with a check forgery case. He was detained by police from his own resort, Wonderland Green Park, located in Nawabganj, Dhaka, on Sunday.

Law enforcers confirmed that following his arrest, Shamsuddoha was taken to court for legal proceedings.

Shamsuddoha, who previously served as chairman of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA), has long faced allegations of corruption. During his tenure, he reportedly amassed hundreds of crores of taka in illicit commissions from river dredging tenders and by extorting money from industrialists accused of encroaching on rivers.

With these earnings, he allegedly built significant assets, including a sprawling farmhouse spread across hundreds of bighas of land in Nawabganj, where he invested massive sums.

Within the police force, Shamsuddoha was infamously dubbed the “son of a thief”, a reflection of the reputation he earned through alleged corruption and abuse of power.
