Dhaka, Nov 17 (V7N) – The long-awaited verdict in the case against ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and three others accused of committing crimes against humanity during last year’s July uprising will be delivered today.
Ahead of the verdict, security has been strengthened across the capital. Around 15,000 members of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) are on duty, Additional Commissioner (Crime) ANM Nazrul Islam confirmed. He said there is no security threat, adding that alongside the police, army and BGB personnel are also deployed to maintain order. He urged city residents to continue their daily activities without fear.
Earlier this morning, former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, the only accused currently in custody, was produced before the tribunal. The other accused — Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan — remain absconding.
On July 10, the day charges were formally framed, Mamun admitted his involvement in crimes against humanity during the July uprising and submitted an application expressing his willingness to serve as a state witness.
The verdict is expected to draw national attention, marking a crucial moment in the ongoing judicial proceedings related to last year’s unrest.
