The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) evicted hawkers from streets and footpaths in the bustling New Market area on Saturday. Deputy Commissioner Zainul Abedin of the Ramna Traffic Division confirmed the operation aimed at clearing encroachments to ease traffic.

He mentioned legal action against those causing traffic jams by occupying roads from Gauchia Market to Bata Signal and from Newmarket Crossing to Dhaka College. Only cars will be allowed in leased parking spaces, and repeated hawker occupations will prompt further operations.
