Rangpur , Oct 16,V7N- At the recent inauguration of the "Divisional Tree Fair 2024" in Rangpur, officials highlighted the critical need for massive tree plantations to address climate change, enhance environmental conditions, promote biodiversity, and create jobs to reduce poverty. The event, held at the Zila School grounds, was organized by the district administration and the Social Forestry Division, featuring 56 stalls showcasing saplings of timber, fruit, medicinal, and ornamental plants.

Key speakers, including Acting Rangpur Divisional Commissioner Md. Azmal Hossain, emphasized the crucial role of tree plantation in environmental protection and sustainable development. They underscored the economic and nutritional benefits of planting trees and the importance of increasing forest coverage to maintain environmental balance.

The officials also discussed how tree plantations contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly by supporting biodiversity, enhancing food security, and promoting socio-economic progress. The chief guest stressed that trees are essential for maintaining a livable planet for future generations and that initiatives like the tree fair can inspire more people to participate in greening efforts.

Attendees included government officials, police representatives, forest and agricultural experts, nursery owners, students, and farmers, all united in their commitment to expanding forest areas and improving the environment.
