DHAKA, March 1, (V7N) - Dhaka, the densely populated capital of Bangladesh, ranked third among cities with the worst air quality on Sunday morning, recording an AQI of 183 at 9 am, according to IQAir.
The city’s air was classified as “unhealthy”, posing risks to residents. Lahore, Pakistan, topped the list with an AQI of 244, followed by Delhi, India, at 193.
The Air Quality Index (AQI) measures daily air pollution levels. Readings between 150–200 are considered unhealthy, 201–300 very unhealthy, and 301+ hazardous. Dhaka’s AQI is based on five pollutants: PM10, PM2.5, NO2, CO, SO2, and ozone.
Dhaka has long struggled with air pollution, particularly during winter when dust, industrial emissions, and brick kiln smoke worsen conditions. Air quality typically improves during the monsoon season due to rainfall.
Experts warn that sustained exposure to unhealthy air can cause respiratory and cardiovascular problems, urging authorities to strengthen pollution control measures and raise public awareness.
