The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has announced an extension of the heat alert, indicating that the ongoing heatwave is expected to persist for an additional 72 hours starting from this morning.

A widespread heatwave continues to affect most parts of the country, with sporadic rainfall and thundershowers reported in certain areas.

According to Meteorologist Hafizur Rahman, the heat alert warns of potential discomfort due to increased moisture incursion.

This extension follows previous heat alerts issued on April 19, April 22, and April 25, as the BMD closely monitors and responds to the challenging weather conditions impacting the region.

In related news, primary and secondary schools, as well as colleges, have reopened today after an extended break, which included Eid holidays, Pahela Baishakh celebrations, and a week off due to the prevailing high temperatures.
