A low-pressure system has emerged over the south-west and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal, which is expected to strengthen further, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) on Wednesday morning.

The BMD has forecasted rain or thundershowers, potentially with temporary gusty or squally winds, in several regions. These include many areas in Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions, a few locations in Dhaka, Mymensingh, Chittagong, and Sylhet divisions, and one or two places in Khulna and Barisal divisions starting from 9 AM on Wednesday.

Additionally, a mild heatwave is affecting the Sylhet division and the districts of Dhaka, Netrokona, Chittagong, Rangamati, Feni, Cox’s Bazar, Bagerhat, Jessore, and Chuadanga, and it may persist.

Daytime temperatures are expected to remain relatively stable, while nighttime temperatures might rise slightly across the country. The increase in moisture is likely to heighten discomfort, as noted in the BMD bulletin.

Over the past 24 hours until 6 AM Wednesday, the highest temperature recorded was 37.5°C in Mongla, Bagerhat, and the lowest temperature was 22.4°C in Tetulia, Panchagarh. Meanwhile, Patuakhali experienced the highest rainfall at 64mm.
