DHAKA, Sept 19, V7N - As of September 19, 2024, Dhaka has been ranked second on the list of cities worldwide with the worst air quality, recording an Air Quality Index (AQI) score of 158 at 9:05 AM. This level of air quality is classified as 'unhealthy', indicating potential health risks for the general population.

Understanding the AQI Scale

The AQI is a standardized index used to report daily air quality levels and their potential health effects. Here’s a brief overview of the AQI classifications:

  • 50-100: Moderate
  • 101-150: Unhealthy for sensitive groups
  • 151-200: Unhealthy
  • 201-300: Very unhealthy
  • 301+: Hazardous

In addition to Dhaka, Lahore in Pakistan topped the list with an AQI of 162, while Kolkata in India and Tashkent in Uzbekistan followed with scores of 152 and 139, respectively.

Air Pollution Challenges in Dhaka
