Dhaka Sept 20, V7N- Dhaka ranked second on the list of cities with the worst air quality on the morning of September 20, 2024, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) score of 154, classifying the air as 'very unhealthy'. According to the AQI scale, scores between 150 and 200 represent air that is harmful to health, with increasing risks for the general population. Hanoi, Cairo, and Lahore were also in the top ranks for poor air quality, with Hanoi at the top spot with an AQI score of 161.

The AQI is based on key pollutants, such as particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), carbon monoxide (CO), sulfur dioxide (SO2), and ozone. The consistently poor air quality in Dhaka is a recurring issue, especially during the winter months, which exacerbates pollution levels.

Air pollution poses serious health risks, with the World Health Organization (WHO) linking it to millions of deaths annually from conditions like heart disease, respiratory infections, stroke, and lung cancer.
