Dhaka, Oct 27 (V7N)- The High Court (HC) is set to hear a writ petition on Monday, requesting an official declaration that the current interim government, led by Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus, be recognized as a "revolutionary government." The petition aims to avert potential constitutional violations regarding the timing of national elections.

A bench comprising Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Debashish Roy Chowdhury scheduled the hearing following the writ's submission last week by Mofazzal Hossan, a freedom fighter from Naogaon's Raninagar area. Hossan argues in the petition that, per constitutional requirements, national elections must occur within 90 days of the dissolution of parliament.

The petition highlights Articles 57 and 58 of the constitution, which mandate that the prime minister and other ministers remain in office only until successors are appointed. If elections are delayed beyond 90 days, the petitioner states that Article 123 (3) (b) would be breached, thereby risking charges of treason under Article 7 (a) of the constitution.

As a solution, the petitioner urges the HC to instruct the government to issue a gazette recognizing the interim administration as a "revolutionary government" in acknowledgment of the "glorious revolution of August 5."
