Dhaka, Apr 13 (V7N) – A Dhaka court has issued arrest warrants against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehana, and Rehana's daughters Tulip Siddique and Azmina Siddique in connection with alleged irregularities in the allotment of plots under the Purbachal New Town Project.

The Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib issued the warrants on Sunday after accepting the charge sheet filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in three separate cases. The court noted that the accused were absconding, prompting the issuance of arrest warrants.

These new warrants come shortly after similar orders were issued on Thursday, targeting 18 individuals, including Sheikh Hasina and her daughter Saima Wazed Putul, in related corruption cases.

The cases stem from alleged manipulation and irregularities in the allocation of government land in Purbachal, one of Dhaka’s largest planned townships. The ACC has accused the former prime minister and her close family members of abusing their influence to gain unlawful advantages in the plot allotment process.

It is notable that Sheikh Hasina, who served as Prime Minister for over 15 years, stepped down from power on August 5 following a mass student-public uprising. She has reportedly been residing in India since her ousting.

The developments mark a significant turn in the ongoing anti-corruption drive launched by the current interim administration. Legal proceedings in the Purbachal land scam cases are expected to continue in the coming weeks.
