Dhaka, Feb 26 (V7N) – A Dhaka court has ordered the seizure of 518 flats and apartments in the United Kingdom registered in the name of former Awami League Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Jabed, with the total value of these assets estimated at £271.852 million.

The order was issued on Thursday (February 26) by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Faiz following an application submitted by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Background of the Case

The ACC stated that a 9-member task force comprising officials from the ACC, CID, and NBR was formed to investigate allegations of money laundering involving Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Jabed and his associates. During a raid on a house in Chittagong on September 21, 2025, the task force recovered 23 bags of evidence, which were subsequently brought to Dhaka for review, examination, and analysis.

Among the recovered materials were:

  • Contracts, documents, and payment orders

  • Booking money receipts and various checks

  • Vouchers and original property purchase documents abroad in the names of Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Jabed and related entities

Based on detailed examination, the ACC compiled a list of immovable properties owned by Jabed and his associates in multiple countries, including the 518 UK properties. The commission requested the seizure to prevent the transfer or sale of these assets.

Ministerial Tenure

Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Jabed served as State Minister of the Ministry of Lands from 2014 to 2018, and as the Minister of Lands from 2019 to 2023.

The ACC continues its investigation into the source of wealth and alleged illicit activities linked to these assets.
