Dhaka, Sep 25 (V7N) Six suspected robbers have been detained in Cox’s Bazar in connection with the fatal attack on Lieutenant Tanzim Sarwar Nirjon, who was killed while on duty in Chakaria, Cox's Bazar.

The detained individuals are identified as Md Babul Prokash (44), Md Helal Uddin (34), Md Anwar Hakim (28), Md Arif Ullah (25), Md Ziabul Karim (45), and Md Hossain (39). They have reportedly confessed to their involvement in the murder.

Md Babul Prokash has been identified as the primary financier behind the crime, admitting to fatally stabbing Lt Tanzim. Md Helal Uddin served as the second-in-command of the gang, while Md Anwar Hakim was the driver, and Md Arif Ullah was armed. Informants Md Ziabul Karim and Md Hossain also confessed to their roles in the incident.

The arrests were made during an operation by the Bangladesh Army, confirmed in a press release by the Inter Services Public Relation Directorate (ISPR) on Wednesday.

The operation led to the recovery of two homemade firearms, 11 rounds of ammunition, the knife used in the murder, a pickup truck, and a motorcycle. Initial interrogations revealed that four of the detained individuals were directly involved, while two provided information to assist in the crime.

The Bangladesh Army's operation to apprehend other members of the robbery gang is ongoing. The six suspects have been handed over to Chakaria police, and a case is being filed.

Lt Tanzim Sarwar, a promising officer, was commissioned into the Army Service Corps (ASC) in June 2022, after completing his education at Pabna Cadet College. He was killed while trying to stop a robbery in the early hours of Tuesday in Chakaria, Cox's Bazar.
