Dhaka, Jan 03, (V7N) - The Detective Branch (DB) of Police has successfully rescued Kazi Raisul Islam, also known as Selim, the 45-year-old Chairman of Moukoron Union Parishad in Patuakhali district, who had been abducted on Wednesday in South Keraniganj.

Selim was found on Thursday afternoon in a building near Doleswar Government Primary School in Dokkhin Keraniganj. Police also arrested five members of the gang involved in the kidnapping from different areas of South Keraniganj. The arrested individuals are Mohammad Farhad (34), Toufiq Rahat (20), Ripon Mahmud Nayan (27), Md. Amir Hossain (65), and Mohammad Didar (25).

According to DB sources, Selim had left Patuakhali for Dhaka at around 11:30 p.m. on December 31, 2024. On January 1, around 6 a.m., he called his wife to inform her that when the bus he was traveling on reached the Ekuria BRTA area, a group of 15-20 people boarded the bus. They threatened the driver, conductor, and passengers, forcibly took Selim off the bus, and kidnapped him in a private car.

The kidnappers later contacted Selim's wife and demanded a ransom of 1 crore taka, threatening to kill him if the money was not paid. After this call, Selim’s phone was turned off, and he remained out of contact.

Following the wife's report, the DB’s Organized Crime, Car Theft Prevention, and Rescue Team carried out raids in the area. The kidnappers held Selim captive for two days and subjected him to physical torture.

The police have now arrested the suspects, and further legal action is being taken.
