Dhaka, Mar 08 (V7N) – Police have arrested at least 36 people, including prominent Hizb ut-Tahrir member Saiful Islam, a key figure in the banned organization.
The arrests were made starting Friday, according to the Chief Adviser's Press Wing.
It reported that Hizb ut-Tahrir was banned in 2009 for anti-state propaganda.
The police have launched a nationwide search for members of this group who participated in an unlawful gathering outside the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in the capital on Friday.
In this regard, the inspector general of police, Baharul Alam, said: "We are analyzing the video footage of the rally. We have identified many members for participating in the political program of the banned organization."
The police have filed multiple cases under anti-terrorism laws against the members of this organization.
Earlier on Saturday, it was reported through the Bangladesh Army's verified Facebook page that 15 members of the banned organization Hizb ut-Tahrir had been detained on charges of extremism. The army subsequently handed them over to the police.
