Pabna June 8, (V7N)- In a span of two and a half months, another incident of skeletons disappearing from a cemetery has occurred in Pabna, causing a stir among the locals.

This time, five skeletons vanished overnight from the central cemetery in Chinakhara, Dulai Union of Sujanagar Upazila.

The skeletons disappeared at some point during Friday night (June 7). Locals suspect that an organized gang of thieves dug up old graves in the cemetery and stole the skeletons.

On Saturday morning, hundreds of people gathered at the cemetery after seeing the dug-up graves. They demanded the quick arrest of those involved.

Shariful Islam, a local resident and assistant teacher at Chinakhara High School, told Voice7 News that on Saturday morning, a few workers went to the cemetery to clear vegetation. They discovered several graves had been dug up and alerted the locals. Upon arrival, locals found five graves had been excavated, with no remains or skeletons inside.

Confirming the incident to Voice7 News, Sirajul Islam Shahjahan, chairman of Dulai Union Parishad and president of the Chinakhara Central Cemetery Committee, said he received news of the skeleton theft on Saturday morning. He went to the cemetery and saw five graves had been dug up. He immediately informed the police. The chairman mentioned that the graves from which the skeletons were taken were all several years old.

Jalal Uddin, the officer-in-charge (OC) of Sujanagar Police Station, told Voice7 News that the police visited the site upon receiving news of the missing skeletons. Based on preliminary findings and the condition of the graves, it is suspected that the skeletons were stolen. The matter will be investigated, and legal action will be taken.

It is worth noting that earlier this year, on the morning of March 19, fifteen skeletons were stolen from the central cemetery in Khas Aminpur, Aminpur Thana of Bera Upazila in Pabna. The police have yet to solve that case or arrest anyone involved.
