During a Friday morning search at Chattogram Shah Amanat International Airport, the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CID) found 14 gold bars valued about Tk 1.5 crore inside a cigarette packet.

According to Md Al Amin Prodhan, the revenue officer of the Chattogram CID, they discovered the cigarette packet in the morning at the airport, linked to a piece of baggage on a conveyor belt.

He said later that the gold bars were found within the packet, but no one was taken into custody as a result.

A aircraft from Air Arabia landed early in the morning, leading the CID officers to think that the gold was smuggled from the United Arab Emirates.

A legal procedure regarding the gold bars has been started, and they have been turned over to the government exchequer.
