On Tuesday, ACC's Tangail district branch assistant director Biplob Hossain filed the case.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against the Tangail mayor and six officials, alleging corruption and negligence in the construction process.

The bridge over the Louhajang River in Beradoma, funded by LGED, was being implemented by Tangail Municipality. The construction cost of the bridge was estimated at TK 36.18 million. The 40-meter long and 8-meter wide bridge construction began on November 12, 2020. According to the project agreement, the construction was supposed to be completed by May 11, 2022.

However, before the construction was completed, on the night of June 16, 2022, the western part of the under-construction bridge collapsed due to the current of the river water, causing the bamboo and wooden supports to dislodge. Subsequently, various agencies, including the ACC, started investigations.

The ACC case states that the use of substandard construction materials and the negligence of the authorities caused the important bridge, built at a cost of TK 36.18 million, to collapse.
