Rajshahi, Aug 20 (V7N) – A murder case has been filed against 1,200 people, including former Rajshahi City Corporation Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, over the death of Shibir leader Raihan Ali during an anti-discrimination student protest. The complaint was submitted on the night of August 19 at Boalia Model Police Station by Rana Islam, the coordinator of the movement.

Boalia Police Station's Officer-in-Charge, Masud Parvez, confirmed that Raihan Ali’s brother has registered the case, naming 50 individuals and implicating 1,200 others.

The case alleges that on August 5, during a procession from Talai Mari to Sahabazar, Mayor Liton and activists from the Awami League reportedly attacked the protesters, leading to Raihan Ali, the organizational secretary of metropolitan Shibir, being shot. Raihan Ali subsequently died in the ICU at Rajshahi Medical College (RAMEK) Hospital on August 8.

The complaint also notes that on August 5, just before the resignation of Sheikh Hasina’s government, leaders from the Awami League, Jubo League, and Chhatra League allegedly assaulted the anti-discrimination protesters in Alupatti, Rajshahi. The attack involved gunfire and bomb explosions, resulting in one person’s immediate death and Raihan Ali's subsequent death from injuries at the hospital.
