Cox's Bazar, Sep 28 (V7N) – In a significant development, RAB-15 has arrested two individuals in connection with the murder of Army officer Lieutenant Tanzim Sarowar Nirjan (23) in Dulahazara, Chakaria. The suspects, Nashir Uddin (38) and his accomplice Enam (50), were apprehended on Friday night in the Madhyam Kaharia Ghona area of Chakaria.
RAB-15's Senior Assistant Director (Law and Media), Abul Kalam Chowdhury, confirmed that the suspects have confessed to their involvement in the killing of the army officer. Authorities also recovered two homemade firearms and three rounds of bullets from the arrested individuals. Following the arrests, the suspects were handed over to Chakaria police for further legal action.
According to the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chakaria Police Station, Manjur Quader Bhuiyan, the two accused were transferred to the police station along with the weapons. As both suspects were unwell, they were sent to a hospital for treatment before being presented in court.
Nashir Uddin is a resident of Dumkhali Reservepara village in Dulahazara Union, and Enamul Haque hails from the Maijpara area of the same union.
The incident occurred on September 23, 2024, when a team from the Bangladesh Army's Chakaria camp responded to a robbery report in East Maijpara village of Dulahazara Union at around 3 a.m. While conducting raids in the area, Lt. Tanzim and his team encountered a group of robbers. In the ensuing chase, Lt. Tanzim managed to apprehend Nashir Uddin. However, Nashir’s associates intervened, and Lt. Tanzim was fatally attacked with a sharp weapon.
Despite being rushed to Malumghat Memorial Hospital, Lt. Tanzim was pronounced dead by the attending doctors. The tragic murder has since sparked widespread discussion and concern across the country.
A case was filed at Chakaria Police Station, with Senior Warrant Officer Abdullah Al Haroon ur Rashid acting as the plaintiff in the murder case.
The investigation is ongoing, and the authorities are working to ensure that all those involved are brought to justice.
