Barguna, Sep 28 (V7N)– Assistant teachers from Patharghata Government Primary School in Barguna organized a human chain and rally on Saturday to demand the implementation of the 10th pay grade, aimed at eliminating salary disparity. The protest took place at the Upazila Parishad square after 11 a.m., with teachers highlighting the financial challenges they face under the current pay structure.

The event was led by Upazila Primary Teachers' Association President, Chagir Hossain, and featured speeches from General Secretary Moniruzzaman Monir, as well as teachers Dulal Gazi, Gayatri Rani, Harun Or-Rashid, Akhtaruzzaman Badal, Aminul Islam Sohag, Neshar Uddin, and others. They voiced their frustration with the 13th-grade pay scale, which they say is inadequate for meeting their basic needs.

"Teachers are struggling to survive on the 13th grade salary," said one speaker. "After just 15 days, many of us are forced to rely on loans to get by. This is why we demand the implementation of the 10th grade."

Teachers emphasized that this movement would continue until their demands are met. They expressed concerns that without action, many would continue to face financial hardship, as the cost of living rises while their wages remain stagnant.

Following the human chain and rally, a memorandum was submitted to Upazila Executive Officer Roknuzzaman Khan. The memorandum, directed to the chief advisor of the interim government, Md. Yunus, reinforced the teachers’ call for immediate pay grade adjustments.

The teachers made it clear that the 10th grade is essential for ensuring a dignified life and fair compensation for their work.
