Bagerhat, Oct 03 (V7N)- Medical staff at Morelganj Upazila Hospital in Bagerhat have gone on strike from 9 a.m. Thursday to protest a violent attack on doctors while on duty. The strike was launched following an incident where several doctors were assaulted inside the hospital's emergency department, demanding the arrest of those responsible.

As a result of the strike, general outpatient services at the hospital have been disrupted, forcing numerous patients to return without receiving treatment. On average, around 300 patients visit the outpatient department of the Morelganj Upazila Health Complex daily.

The attack occurred around 11 p.m. on Wednesday, when a group of 5-6 individuals stormed the hospital's emergency department. Deputy Assistant Medical Officer Chandan Das was injured and is currently hospitalized, while two female medical officers were also physically assaulted during the altercation. Following the incident, a case was filed at the local police station later that night.

Dr. Ahad Nazmul Hasan, the duty medical officer at the hospital, stated that the strike will continue until the attackers are apprehended. However, he noted that the hospital's emergency services and inter-department operations would remain functional during the strike.

Morelganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Mohammad Shamsuddin, confirmed that a case has been registered regarding the incident and assured that efforts are underway to arrest the perpetrators.
