Sylhet , Oct 05 (V7N): In September, at least 20 individuals lost their lives, and 24 others were injured in 24 road accidents across the Sylhet division, as reported by Nirapad Sarak Chai (NISCHA), a voluntary organization.

The report indicated that Sylhet district experienced the highest number of casualties, with 10 fatalities and 13 injuries from 10 distinct road incidents.

In Sunamganj, three road accidents resulted in the deaths of two individuals, with two others sustaining injuries.

Moulvibazar reported four fatalities and four injuries from four separate accidents, while Habiganj saw six deaths and five injuries across seven road incidents.

NISCHA gathered this data from local newspapers, online portals, national dailies, and its own sources within its Sylhet branch.

Among the deceased, 13 were motorcyclists or their passengers, while three were either drivers or passengers of CNG auto-rickshaws and Legunas. Additionally, five pedestrians lost their lives due to these accidents.

The report highlighted that six of the fatalities resulted from loss of vehicle control, while two occurred from collisions with trees or electric poles. The victims included 15 men, three women, and two children.

Road safety continues to be a critical issue in Sylhet, prompting local authorities and organizations like NISCHA to promote awareness and implement measures aimed at reducing accidents through various initiatives.
